New York Ballot Cure Calling

New York Ballot Cure Phone Bank

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

https://www.mobilize.us/dccc/event/535647/
We’re protecting the vote in New York’s ultra-competitive House districts where extra attention to voter enfranchisement could decide a tight race. These are districts that could absolutely determine the balance of power in Washington next year and the proper certification of the 2024 presidential election.
At this phone bank we’ll be calling voters supportive of Democrats who have already cast absentee ballots that have been rejected by their counties. They can “cure” these ballots and get them counted if they take additional action, and that’s what we’ll be walking them through.
These calls could unquestionably prove decisive in close races. In 2020, there were 20,000 rejected but curable ballots in NY. Just 8,000 were cured. At the same time, one close House race was lost by just about 100 votes. Let’s get these votes counted!
**Paid for by DCCC (www.dccc.org). Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee

Campaign State: New York
Action Type: Phoning

1. Take action to secure votes

  • Click here to request past volunteers to call.
  • Enter the email you use to log in to Together We Elect.
  • Select the number of calls you would like to make.
  • Select the desired Timezone for your calls.
  • Click Submit

You will receive an email with links for each of the volunteers you would like to call.

Start by selecting one of the links, calling and filling out the form, and then continuing through the list of people to call.

Note: You may request a list of people to call at any point during the week. Once a week on Sunday evening, we will reclaim (put back into the database) all the people you have been allocated who have not yet been called that prior week. That way, if you run out of time or something gets in the way (think life), your volunteers will get contacted when someone else submits a request to get a calling list.

Guidance for Ballot Curing

1. Fill out the form

The past volunteers information should be fully filled out with their email, first and last name, phone number, and zip code. If any of this information is missing, it would be ideal to capture it when you talk to the person.

1. Call the past volunteer using your phone.

2. During your call, please fill out the following information.

3. Select one of the drop-down options from the Call Response prompt:

  • Committed to an action or interested
  • Check back later
  • Not Interested
  • Already committed
  • Left Voicemail
  • No Answer
  • Disconnected, wrong number, or deceased

4. If Check back later, please select the date for follow up

5. Activities of Interest – select one or more as appropriate

  • Phonebanking to elect Mary Peltola in Alaska

  • Text Bank to voters in PA-07 for Susan Wild

  • “Get Out the Vote” phonebanking with Wisconsin Democrats

  • 20 minute zoom session to find midterm actions

6. Place any notes in the ‘Call Notes’ section.

7. Sending emails:

  • The system automatically sends all emails.
  • When you have a conversation, emails are sent to the callee and to you the caller. If you leave a voicemail, the system sends an email to just the callee, not to you.
  • For people who committed to one or more actions, please select “1: Committed or interested” as the email
  • If you left a voicemail, please select “2: Left Voicemail”
  • If you did not reach a person or it is not relevant to send an email, select “3: No email”

8. Your first name and email should be populated on the form.

9. Hit the Submit button which enters the information into the database and sends the appropriate email.

2. Leave a voicemail

If there is no answer, you can leave a voicemail. This voicemail will be followed up with an email from the system to the person you are calling when you check “2: Left Voicemail” for the email to send.  The sample email is below – please make it your own.

Hello {person’s name}, my name is [your name]. I am calling with Together we Elect to thank you for your efforts to help Democrats win the national elections in 2020.  This year, we’ve identified high priority actions for candidates that will help keep the House and Senate blue. Together We Elect is sending you an email with some links to sign up for specific volunteer activities.  Thank you for volunteering again to help save our democracy!

OR something like:

Hi (NAME), my name is {your name} and I’m calling from Together We Elect because you’ve done volunteer election work in the past … and I hope you can do some between now and the midterms, to keep the House and Senate blue!
— Together We Elect will be sending you an email with links to high priority actions for key candidates. Please sign up for a volunteer activity that suits your preferences and schedule. I hope you’ll be able to sign up for one.

— Thank you in advance for helping to save our democracy!

3. Phone call script / Support
