Susie Lee won the open seat in Nevada’s 3rd congressional district in 2018 by 9 points, but her margin slipped to 3 points in 2020. Redistricting made the district more favorable to Democrats, improving Biden’s 2020 margin by 3.3 points by picking up voters in the left-leaning areas of Las Vegas. However, NV-03 is still viewed as the state’s most competitive House district and is currently D+1 and rated a tossup.
In Congress, Susie has championed common sense bipartisan leadership that delivers results on critical issues like affordable healthcare, funding for public education, and support for our nation’s veterans. She has been a tireless community advocate for Nevada’s working families.
Her opponent will now be 2020 failed state Senate candidate April Becker who is pro-life and pro-gun. She joined other Republicans in 2020 in challenging the results of several of the state’s elections.
Cong. Susie Lee was born to a working-class family in Canton, Ohio. She learned the values of hard work and stretching a dollar, starting with a paper route at the age of eight. Her father was a military veteran who worked at a steel plant, while her mother stayed at home to care for the family of eight kids. After graduating from public schools, Susie worked her way through Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh with a combination of scholarships, loans, and part-time jobs.
Rep. Lee moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and became the founding director of After-School All-Stars, which serves over 7,000 students every day after school. From 2010 until entering Congress in 2018, Rep. Lee served as president of Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS), a leading dropout prevention organization. Under Lee’s leadership, CIS has grown to serve over 64,000 students in 63 schools in Nevada.
Rep. Lee is a strong supporter of a woman’s right to choose and recently said, “Abortion is more than just healthcare. It’s about our fundamental right to privacy.”
Lee has been a strong advocate on behalf of Nevada’s children and families, and, as such, is acutely aware of the impact gun violence has on our communities. She voted for the recent bi-partisan legislation on closing the boyfriend loophole and expanding background checks. She has been endorsed by Gabby Giffords as well as Moms Demand Action.
Lee knows that Nevada is the epicenter of the effects of climate change—and the decreasing level of Lake Mead is proof. That’s why she has been advocating for policies in Washington to fight the climate crisis and keep safe, clean water in Lake Mead for generations to come.
