First elected in 2018 to represent Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, Cindy Axne defeated incumbent Republican Congressman David Young with 49.3 percent of the vote, becoming one of two first women to represent Iowa in the House. In 2020, Axne defeated Young again. She serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and Committee on Agriculture. Axne is known for her bipartisan efforts, a real strength for an Iowa congresswoman. She has worked with Democrats and Republicans to file bills that support rural entrepreneurs and small business owners, and provide reasonable reimbursement for health care providers in rural communities. Axne’s undergraduate degree is from the University of Iowa, and she earned an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Northwestern University.
