Elaine Luria for VA 02 House District
Holding VA 2 House seat held by Elaine Luria
Elaine Luria was first elected in 2018 when she flipped what had been a Republican-held seat since 2011. She won Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District in 2018 with a 2.3 point margin against incumbent Scott Taylor. Taylor tried for a rematch in 2020, but Luria increased her margin to 5.8 points. Still, five Republicans currently have filed to challenge Luria in 2022. A 1997 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Luria served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of commander. One of the first women in the Navy’s nuclear power program, Luria served her entire career on combatant ships. She is also the longest-serving active military member of the Democratic congressional delegation. Currently Luria is vice chair of the House Armed Services Committee. She also serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where she serves as Chair of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee, on the House Committee on Homeland Security, and the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.
