Susie Lee

Rep. Susie Lee (D) draws on her background in environmental science and education in her five years representing Nevada's 3rd congressional district. A nonprofit executive and education advocate, Lee brings a passion for public service and a commitment to her community to her role in Congress.

Born and raised in a working class family of 10 in Canton, Ohio, Lee attended Carnegie Mellon University where she was on the swim team. She earned a bachelor’s degree in policy and management and a master’s degree in public policy and management. After college, she moved to Las Vegas, where she worked in the nonprofit sector.

Lee's nonprofit work focused on education and homelessness. She served as the founding director of After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, providing after-school programs for at-risk youth. Later she served as the president of Communities In Schools of Nevada, working to prevent dropout and improve educational outcomes. She was named Humanitarian of the Year by that organization in 2015.

Lee's first campaign for Congress came in 2018, when she ran for the open seat in Nevada's 3rd district. Lee emphasized her background in education and her commitment to issues like healthcare access, gun violence prevention, and renewable energy development.

In Congress, Lee is a member of the House Committee on Education and Labo, advocating for policies to expand early childhood education, improve teacher training and support, and make higher education more affordable.

As a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Lee has also been a strong advocate for Nevada's large veteran population. She has pushed for policies to improve healthcare services for veterans, address veteran homelessness, and expand job training and employment opportunities.
