Democrats are keenly focused on U.S. House races in California, and for good reason. In 2022, redistricting that created more GOP-favored districts meant Democratic candidates lost in two key districts, and Democrats lost control of the House.

Thiis year, six districts are receiving the most attention, one an open seat due to Rep. Katie Porter’s leaving and five seats that Democrats aim to flip. In all but one district, the partisan lean of voters is toward Democrats, but all races, except the open seat, are tossups.

The outcome in a string of contested California districts will be critical in determining the balance of power in Congress. Volunteer Blue is focusing on one open seat in CA-47 where David Min won the primary and five seats (CA districts 13, 22, 27, 41, and 45) that can be flipped.

House Majority PAC, a super PAC affiliated with the Democratic Party, is targeting four California Republicans: Mike Garcia (CA-27), Young Kim (CA-40), Ken Calvert (CA-41), and Michelle Steel CA-45).

Former Congressman Adam Schiff is seeking the open U.S. Senate seat formerly held by the late Dianne Feinstein.

California has been a bellwether for national politics in recent years, and the results of these races could have a significant impact on the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives.
