Take Action: Nevada

Senate (Rosen), NV-03 (Lee)

The political outlook in the battleground state of Nevada is shaped by many factors, including the state’s demographics, economy, and political history.

In 2024, incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Jackie Rosen is running for a second term. Senator Rosen easily won the state's Democratic Primary, getting 92% of the vote against two little-known candidates and raising more than $19 million. Rosen said, “My opponent will say anything to get elected. His far-right agenda of banning abortion even in case of rape or incest, phasing out Social Security and Medicare, abolishing the Department of Education and reviving Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste dump would be disaster for Nevada and hardworking families across our state.”

In NV-03, where Rosen formerly served, U.S. Congresswoman Susie Lee, is seeking a fourth term. She has vastly outraised her Republican opponent, The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has designated Lee as a Frontline Candidate, and the GOP has deemed NV-03 a Target District.

Nevada is a diverse state with a large Hispanic population. This demographic group has traditionally supported the Democratic Party, and this trend is expected to continue in the 2024 elections. However, the GOP has made significant inroads and are expected to mount a strong challenge.

The state’s purple lean is clear; Trump won Nevada in 2016 but Biden won in 2020 by 2 points, and the governorship flipped to Democrat in 2022.

The economy is another key factor shaping Nevada’s political outlook. The recovery of the state’s large tourism industry, hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, will be a key issue.

Rosen is considered one of the most bipartisan senators in the US Senate and has consistently performed well in polls in her state. The issues she lists as most important are:
Lowering costs of prescription drugs, healthcare, and housing for the middle class

  • Defending abortion rights
  • Tackling the climate crisis
  • Protecting Social Security and Medicare

The issues Lee has focused on in Congress include:

  • Climate change: Policies that reduce carbon emissions reduction and clean energy promotion
  • Economy and jobs: Policies that support small businesses and entrepreneurs
  • Education, Improving access to education and reduce student debt
  • Health care, policies that improve access and reduce costs to health care
